Insulated vs Single Skin Patio Kits: What’s the Difference?

Choosing the right patio kit starts with the roof. At Auspatios Direct, we offer both insulated patio kits and single skin patio kits, each designed for different budgets, climates and outdoor living needs.

Designed for DIY. Strong enough for pros. Simple enough for homeowners. Increase the value of your home!

Insulated Roof Panels

Insulated Roof Panels

Cooler. Quieter. Smarter.

Insulated panels combine roofing, insulation, and ceiling in one sleek system. They reduce heat, dampen rain noise, and give you a clean ceiling-like underside that's perfect for fans, downlights, and that modern alfresco look.

Why Choose Insulated?

  • Benefit Icon Insulated patio kits are designed to deliver all-season outdoor comfort
  • Benefit Icon High-performance insulated roof panels help keep your patio cooler in summer and warmer in winter

Single Skin Roofing

Single Skin Roofing

Simple. Stylish. Affordable.

Single skin roofing gives you the look of a traditional VJ ceiling at a more affordable price point. It's a single-skin sheet with a decorative profile underneath. It's just perfect for patios, pergolas, and carports where budget matters but style still counts.

Why Choose Single Skin?

  • Benefit Icon Single skin patio kits offer cost-effective patio roofing for DIY builds
  • Benefit Icon Durable steel roof sheets with an attractive VJ-style underside finish

How to Measure and Order Your Patio or Carport Kit

We've made it simple to design and order your patio kit online. Easy steps to follow. Easy to build. No tradie required.

Take These Measurements

Before you start customising your kit, grab a tape measure and note down the dimensions of the area you want to cover. You'll need width and length measurements. Getting this right now makes choosing your kit quick and accurate.

Width: Measure along your house or wall (in whole metres, e.g. 3 m – 12 m)

Length: Measure outward from your house (in 0.1 m increments, e.g. 3.0 m – 6.0 m)

Height: All our kits are designed for a maximum ceiling height of 3 metres. Going higher? Contact us for a custom quote.

What's included in my DIY patio / carport kit?

Roofing panels (Insulated or Single Skin)

All required fixings and fasteners

Assembly instructions

Do I need a builder to install my patio or carport kit?

Our carport and patio kits are DIY-friendly for competent handypersons or owner-builders. However, if you prefer, you can engage a local builder, handyman, or installer to help.

Pro Tip: While your patio kit is fully engineered and rated to N1/N2 in line with council and state requirements, always check with your local certifier for the specific approval process and wind rating required at your property. If your site needs a higher wind rating, get in touch with us for a custom-engineered quote.

Are your kits engineered for council approval?

Yes! All kits come with structural engineering certification and wind ratings specific to QLD and NSW. These documents are supplied with your order to help with council approval.

Do you supply the building plans for certification?

Yes. Your order includes the engineered drawings and specification notes typically required for certification and inspection.

What roofing options do you offer?

We supply both:

Insulated Roofing Panels: Cooler, quieter, ceiling-like finish, ideal for lighting and fans.
Single Skin Roofing: Budget-friendly with a VJ-style look, simple and stylish.

Can I order a custom size?

Yes! Our most popular kits online range from 3m - 6m wide and 3m - 6m long and are easily configured online.
For larger or unique projects, click Request a Custom Quote and tell us your specs.

What if my kit arrives with missing or damaged parts?

Custom kits may take a little longer depending on materials and location.
We’ll provide a delivery date estimate at checkout.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver free to most areas in Queensland and New South Wales.

We currently deliver free to Southeast Queensland and most of New South Wales. You can check if we service your postcode on any product page.

How is my patio kit delivered?

Your patio kit is delivered in packaged sections via a truck equipped for building-material deliveries.

The delivery process is similar to how roofing, steel, timber, or framing materials are delivered for residential construction projects. Larger components such as posts, beams, and roof sheets are securely bundled for safe transport.

Most deliveries are placed in an accessible area on your property (such as a driveway or hardstand). In some cases, a crane or lifting equipment may be used if required.

If you have specific delivery requirements or site constraints, please let us know at the time of ordering so we can plan accordingly.

To ensure a smooth delivery, please:

Make sure there is suitable vehicle access on the day
Keep the delivery area clear
Notify neighbours if access or temporary use of shared space may be needed

If I pay for delivery, can you deliver outside of NSW and SEQ?

Not at this time. Stay tuned for when we roll out our Australia-wide delivery program.

What’s the difference between freestanding and attached kits?

Freestanding kits: Stand alone in your yard or pool area
Attached kits: Fix directly to your wall or fascia.

Our online builder will guide you through the selection process.

What are the wind ratings of your patio kits?

All Aus Patios Direct patio kits are fully engineered and rated to N1/N2 wind classifications, which meet standard council and state requirements for most areas.

Pro Tip: Always check with your local certifier for the exact approval process and wind rating required for your property. If your site needs a higher rating, we can provide a custom-engineered solution to suit.

What tools do I need to install my kit?

Most installations require basic tools such as:

Cordless drill or impact driver
Tape measure
Ladder
Level
Concrete for footings (if setting posts into the ground)

Full instructions are provided, and we’re here to help if you get stuck.

Are the colours shown online exact?
