Most patios and carports will require council approval, but the process is straightforward.
Every Auspatios Direct kit comes fully engineered with the documentation your certifier will need. You (or your builder) simply submit these documents to a private certifier for assessment.
If you’re unsure where to start, our team can help guide you. We can even assist with your site plan to make the approval process easier, and we’ll flag if your chosen size or placement is likely to require extra checks (e.g. wind region, setbacks).

No, the owner or builder needs to submit the plans to a private certifier for council approval.
Some very small structures can be exempt in certain councils. Rules vary, so please confirm locally. If you’re chasing “light-touch” options, ask us about popular sizes that often qualify in many regions.
Yes! Our standard kits are engineered to N1/N2 wind ratings, which cover the vast majority of residential sites. For locations in exposed or high-wind zones, simply let us know. We’ll work with our engineers to prepare a custom quote designed for your site’s specific conditions.
Our kits are designed to be DIY-friendly with comprehensive instructions.
Setbacks vary by council, height and whether it’s attached or freestanding. Your certifier will confirm for your lot. As a rule of thumb, expect larger setbacks for taller structures and those near side and rear boundaries.

Your patio kit is delivered in packaged sections via a truck equipped for building-material deliveries.
The delivery process is similar to how roofing, steel, timber, or framing materials are delivered for residential construction projects. Larger components such as posts, beams, and roof sheets are securely bundled for safe transport.
Most deliveries are placed in an accessible area on your property (such as a driveway or hardstand). In some cases, a crane or lifting equipment may be used if required.
If you have specific delivery requirements or site constraints, please let us know at the time of ordering so we can plan accordingly.

As a guide, roof sheets can typically overhang beams up to ~900 mm, and beams can cantilever ~1200–1500 mm depending on span, and wind region. If you need more, ask us for a quick custom check so we keep you inside the required engineering.
Both are options:
Yes. For in-ground aluminium posts, wrap the buried section in plastic to isolate it from the concrete, allow ~100 mm of concrete under the post, and dome the top so water can’t sit against the post.
Steel posts can be set directly in concrete.
Roofs are built with fall to the gutter. We include the downpipe connection and enough pipe to run water away from footings. Final storm-water connection follows your local rules: your certifier or plumber will advise.
Our insulated panels are engineered to safely handle limited foot traffic for maintenance access. They are designed for a concentrated maintenance load of 140 kg, which is above the minimum in AS/NZS 1170.1:2001.
Important: These insulated panels are still officially classed as non-trafficable. They are not intended as a walkway. Access should only ever be occasional, for essential maintenance, and taken with appropriate safety precautions.
Please remember, patio roofs aren’t designed as walkways. Even with insulated panels rated for occasional maintenance, regular foot traffic isn’t safe and may void your warranty.
No! Absolutely not. Single-skin sheets are strictly non-trafficable and must never be walked on under any circumstances. They are not designed to hold a person’s weight, and attempting to do so risks serious roof damage and personal safety hazards.
Note: All patio roofs are officially non-trafficable. Walking on roof sheets or panels may void your warranty and cause damage or injury.
Yes. Low-voltage downlights can be run within the panel channels, and fans can mount on a dedicated bracket. A licensed electrician must make the final connections.
No. Concrete needs to be mixed on site. Use a mini-mix/concrete-taxi service or bag mix from your local hardware.
