Everything you need to know about ordering, building, and enjoying your patio kits from Auspatios Direct.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about our high-quality patio and carport kits.

What's included in my carport / patio kit?

Each kit comes with everything you need to build your patio frame and roof, including:

Roofing panels (Insulated or Single Skin)
Posts, beams, barges, and gutters
All required fixings and fasteners
Engineering certification for QLD & NSW
Assembly instructions

How accurate are the colour indicators on your website?

All colours are matched to the official COLORBOND® palette. We recommend you check real COLORBOND® swatches at your local paint or hardware store or via the COLORBOND® website.

Pro tip: It’s best to view the colours in natural light or outside where you plan to place your patio.

Do you supply the building plans for certification?

Your order includes the engineered drawings and specification notes typically required for certification and inspection.

Can you help with a site plan?

Yes! Your certifier needs a site plan showing where your structure sits on your block. We offer a convenient site plan service right here at Auspatios Direct. With just a few details from you, we can prepare a compliant plan for your carport or patio without the draftsman’s price tag.

Contact us for help — it’s just so easy!

Do I need council approval and how do I get it?

Most patios and carports will require council approval, but the process is straightforward.

Every Auspatios Direct kit comes fully engineered with the documentation your certifier will need. You (or your builder) simply submit these documents to a private certifier for assessment.

If you’re unsure where to start, our team can help guide you. We can even assist with your site plan to make the approval process easier, and we’ll flag if your chosen size or placement is likely to require extra checks (e.g. wind region, setbacks).

It’s just so easy!

Do you submit the plans to council?

No, the owner or builder needs to submit the plans to a private certifier for council approval.

Are any sizes exempt from approval?

Some very small structures can be exempt in certain councils. Rules vary, so please confirm locally. If you’re chasing “light-touch” options, ask us about popular sizes that often qualify in many regions.

Are Auspatios Direct products suitable for high-wind areas?

Yes! Our standard kits are engineered to N1/N2 wind ratings, which cover the vast majority of residential sites. For locations in exposed or high-wind zones, simply let us know. We’ll work with our engineers to prepare a custom quote designed for your site’s specific conditions.

Can I install the kit myself?

Our kits are designed to be DIY-friendly with comprehensive instructions.

How close to the boundary can I build?

Setbacks vary by council, height and whether it’s attached or freestanding. Your certifier will confirm for your lot. As a rule of thumb, expect larger setbacks for taller structures and those near side and rear boundaries.

What if my kit arrives with missing parts or damage?

We have rigorous quality control and always aim to deliver our Australian-made products to you in tip-top condition. If something is missing or arrives damaged, you must contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos and your order number via support@auspatiosdirect.com.au or call 1300 565 567. We will review your claim and work with you to get it resolved as quickly as possible.

How long does delivery take?

Most deliveries are completed within 2-3 weeks of order confirmation.

How is my patio kit delivered?

Your patio kit is delivered in packaged sections via a truck equipped for building-material deliveries.

The delivery process is similar to how roofing, steel, timber, or framing materials are delivered for residential construction projects. Larger components such as posts, beams, and roof sheets are securely bundled for safe transport.

Most deliveries are placed in an accessible area on your property (such as a driveway or hardstand). In some cases, a crane or lifting equipment may be used if required.

If you have specific delivery requirements or site constraints, please let us know at the time of ordering so we can plan accordingly.

To ensure a smooth delivery, please:

Make sure there is suitable vehicle access on the day
Keep the delivery area clear
Notify neighbours if access or temporary use of shared space may be needed

Do patios and carports add value to my home?

Yes. A well-designed patio or carport is more than just extra shelter. It’s an investment in your property. Buyers and valuers see the benefit of modern outdoor thoughtfully designed living spaces, extra parking protection, and the lifestyle improvements they create.

With Auspatios Direct kits, you’re getting engineered strength and stylish design which will likely increase the overall market value of your property.

Can I customise my kit beyond the online options?

Yes, contact us for custom modifications and specialised requirements.

How much overhang can I have?

As a guide, roof sheets can typically overhang beams up to ~900 mm, and beams can cantilever ~1200–1500 mm depending on span, and wind region. If you need more, ask us for a quick custom check so we keep you inside the required engineering.

How are posts fixed? Bolt-to-slab, or into footings?

Both are options:

Bolt-down/base plate to an existing slab
In-ground (posts set in concrete footings)
Tell us your situation at checkout and we’ll kit the right brackets/anchors.

Any tips for footings and protecting posts?

Yes. For in-ground aluminium posts, wrap the buried section in plastic to isolate it from the concrete, allow ~100 mm of concrete under the post, and dome the top so water can’t sit against the post.

Steel posts can be set directly in concrete.

How is water managed?

Roofs are built with fall to the gutter. We include the downpipe connection and enough pipe to run water away from footings. Final storm-water connection follows your local rules: your certifier or plumber will advise.

Can I walk on my patio roof (with an insulated roof)?

Our insulated panels are engineered to safely handle limited foot traffic for maintenance access. They are designed for a concentrated maintenance load of 140 kg, which is above the minimum in AS/NZS 1170.1:2001.

Important: These insulated panels are still officially classed as non-trafficable. They are not intended as a walkway. Access should only ever be occasional, for essential maintenance, and taken with appropriate safety precautions.

Please remember, patio roofs aren’t designed as walkways. Even with insulated panels rated for occasional maintenance, regular foot traffic isn’t safe and may void your warranty.

Can I walk on my patio roof (with a single skin roof)?

No! Absolutely not. Single-skin sheets are strictly non-trafficable and must never be walked on under any circumstances. They are not designed to hold a person’s weight, and attempting to do so risks serious roof damage and personal safety hazards.

Note: All patio roofs are officially non-trafficable. Walking on roof sheets or panels may void your warranty and cause damage or injury.

Can I add lights or a ceiling fan? (Insulated roofs only.)

Yes. Low-voltage downlights can be run within the panel channels, and fans can mount on a dedicated bracket. A licensed electrician must make the final connections.

Do you supply concrete?

No. Concrete needs to be mixed on site. Use a mini-mix/concrete-taxi service or bag mix from your local hardware.

What areas do you deliver to?

We deliver free to most areas in NSW and all of Southeast Queensland (and expanding). You'll be asked to enter your postcode into the online patio kit builder to determine if we can deliver to you. If in doubt, message us to confirm your address.

If I pay for delivery, can you deliver outside of NSW and SEQ?

Not at this time. Stay tuned for when we roll out our Australia-wide delivery program.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept all major credit cards and online payments at checkout. A 50% deposit option is available for all patio kits at cart/checkout.

For larger projects and payment plans, please contact us to discuss options.

What happens after I order?

After placing your order, you’ll receive a friendly call from our team to confirm all the details and make sure everything’s spot on.

You’ll also get a “What happens next” email outlining timelines, a simple site-prep checklist (for certifier/site plan), and a quick form to let us know about any site quirks, so we can ship the perfect fit the first time.

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes. For registered builders only. Please make an application through our contact page.
